Cold Brew Concentrate: Ratio and Dilution
A simple cold brew concentrate starts at 1 part coffee to 4 parts water by weight. After steeping, dilute it with water, milk, or ice to taste.
Base recipe
- Combine 250 g coarse coffee with 1,000 ml water.
- Stir until all grounds are wet.
- Cover and steep at room temperature for 12 to 16 hours.
- Strain without pressing hard.
- Dilute 1 part concentrate with 1 to 2 parts water or milk.
| Drink | Concentrate | Dilution | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iced black coffee | 100 ml | 100 to 150 ml water | Balanced strength over ice |
| Milk drink | 100 ml | 150 ml milk | Smooth, lower acidity |
| Strong iced coffee | 120 ml | 80 ml water | Good for lots of ice |
How long it keeps
Filtered cold brew concentrate tastes best within 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator. It may last longer, but flavor gets flatter over time.
For a cleaner concentrate, filter once through mesh and once through paper. It takes longer, but the jar tastes smoother.
