Cold Brew Concentrate: Ratio and Dilution

A simple cold brew concentrate starts at 1 part coffee to 4 parts water by weight. After steeping, dilute it with water, milk, or ice to taste.

Base recipe

  1. Combine 250 g coarse coffee with 1,000 ml water.
  2. Stir until all grounds are wet.
  3. Cover and steep at room temperature for 12 to 16 hours.
  4. Strain without pressing hard.
  5. Dilute 1 part concentrate with 1 to 2 parts water or milk.

How long it keeps

Filtered cold brew concentrate tastes best within 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator. It may last longer, but flavor gets flatter over time.

For a cleaner concentrate, filter once through mesh and once through paper. It takes longer, but the jar tastes smoother.
